Working with Adjusters Playbook

Master the adjuster meeting. How to prepare, what to expect, and strategies for getting fair assessments.

1

Prepare Thoroughly

Before the adjuster arrives, organize all documentation, have your roofer's estimate ready, and make a list of all damage you've observed. Ensure safe access to all areas.

2

Be Present During Inspection

Always be present when the adjuster inspects your property. Walk with them, point out all damage, and ensure they see everything. Don't let them inspect alone.

3

Have Your Roofer Present

If possible, have your roofer present during the adjuster inspection. They can provide professional insight, point out hidden damage, and help ensure a thorough assessment.

4

Provide All Documentation

Give the adjuster copies of all photos, videos, inspection reports, and estimates. Provide receipts for temporary repairs. The more documentation, the stronger your claim.

5

Point Out All Damage

Don't assume the adjuster will see everything. Actively point out all damage areas, including interior water damage, damaged gutters, and any structural concerns.

6

Ask Questions

Ask about what's covered, what's not, depreciation, and coverage limits. Understanding the process helps you advocate effectively for fair coverage.

7

Take Notes

Take notes during the inspection. Document what the adjuster says, what they inspect, and any concerns they raise. This information is valuable if you need to appeal.

8

Get a Copy of the Report

Request a copy of the adjuster's inspection report. Review it carefully and compare it with your roofer's assessment. Identify any discrepancies or missing items.

9

Don't Accept Immediately

Don't feel pressured to accept the adjuster's assessment on the spot. Review the report and settlement offer carefully before accepting.

10

Follow Up

If the adjuster's report is incomplete or the settlement seems low, follow up in writing. Provide additional documentation and request a re-inspection if necessary.
